Redbubble

I've had some photos on Redbubble for a while now and between then they recieved over 500 views but not a single sale so I have decided to remove all of my photos from there. I will be on the lookout for somewhere else to sell my photos, not sure where yet though.

New Flickr Group

I have been quite interested in home made photography gear and what people are doing out there. I had a look on Flickr thinking there would already be a group for it, I couldn't find one when I searched so I set one up - link here. I have since found out there is another group already there just it didn't appear when I searched. This isn't really a problem, I just need to decide - do I kill the group I have started or do I see if I can make it sufficently different to stand out?

my first attempt at water motion blur

I have been planning on trying water motion blur for a while, I have also been reading up on ETTR - expose to the right. I was visiting family and had a spare ten minutes so I gave both a try at the same time.

Beluga Caviar Lomo Camera

I thought lomo was supposed to be a cheap way of producing low-fi arty photographs. Not any more - Beluga Caviar Lomo Camera - at £150 it certainly isn't cheap. Looks cool though.

gin & tonic with a chunk of lemon

Been a few days since I posted a photo of the day here, today's shot is of a Gin and Tonic with a chunk of lemon.

Clocks Change - Sunsets from now on

The clocks go forwards this weekend so from now on I’ll be able to go out and shoot sunsets (yes I like to shoot sunsets) after the kids have gone to bed. At the moment my only choice is to shoot night shots.

There has been some talk of permanently leaving us on summertime, apparently it will make us all more active, healthier and also use less electricity. I’m not convinced, I’m pretty sure taking Coronation Street and Eastenders of the TV would have a greater impact on our nation’s health while also reducing our power use.

Ayrton Senna's Toleman Turbo

One of my other passions is motorsport and one thing caught my attention today, Ayrton Senna’s 1984 Toleman Turbo is going to auction in May. Link here.

He drove this car to second place at Monaco in 1984, phenomenal drive that put him on the map as a great driver. If that race hadn’t been stopped early he may even have finished 1st. Given how poor the car was, he did an amazing job with it finishing in 9th place in the driver’s standings. When trying to compare Senna vs Schumacher I always think of this – Senna’s worst position in the drivers standing was 9th driving this car, Schumacher’s worst was also 9th, driving for Mercedes in 2010 using the car/team that won the drivers and constructors titles the year before.
It’s difficult to estimate what something like this will sell for, I’d expect it to be well into the millions. Guess I’ve got 2 months to win the lottery then.

Sony Photography Awards

Sony have released the top 12 from the Sony World Photography Awards. I think this one is my favorite one.

Adobe CS6 Beta

Adobe have released the Beta version of CS6 – available to download here.

Personally I don’t use CS5, I can’t justify the expense and I have elements 10 that does all I need it to. I will probably give this beta version ago but I will not be buying the full version anytime soon.

I’m not for getting an illegal copy either, I respect the software developer’s copyright/intellectual property just as much as I expect the copyright on my photo’s to be respected. It’s a contentious issue I know and with all of the legislation governments are pushing to bring in things may change soon, time will tell if it works or not, and if the powers being proposed are too far reaching.

Interesting show on ITV on Sunday (25th march) called Perspectives. It's about David Suchet retracing and recreating some of the photo's taken by his grandfather, Jim Jarche. Should be interesting.

fizzy grapes

Day 79 of my photo a day project and I have shot some grapes in soda water. This is my favorite one, there are three more uploaded to my Flickr account.

Flickr Views

I have just realized that my flickr photostream has been viewed over 1000 times. I don't think that flickr views are that important, I'm more interested in getting some useful feedback than a load of views but I guess 1000 is a landmark worth noting.

redbubble

Have you ever heard of redbubble. It's an online place to sell creative works. I signed up to them last year and I have uploaded about 30 photos there. Between them they've been viewed over 500 times but I haven't had a single sale. I'm thinking of pulling the plug and selling them elsewhere.

Sunday 18 March 2012

Gave my wife a Fuji T350 today, she is pleased with it. Only had a quick play with it myself but the blink detect feature has already come in handy. When I get a chance I will post a mini review with some sample shots.
Was out in my garden yesterday clearing up and I took some shots of the wild life came across - they are the latest shots in my photo stream here.

free camera lens hood

I have just found this site www.lenshoods.co.uk
You can just select your lens hood, print it out, cut it out and away you go. Much cheaper than buying a proper hood, more portable as well.
I have just picked up a Fuji T350 digital camera for my wife. Got it in a very girly purple colour so I won't keep borrowing it. Once she has had a play I will do a mini review and post here.

Centurian Tank

I went out last night and shot a long exposure of this tank. It's been placed on a round about near where I live just outside Leyland in Lancashire. It is a Centurian tank that was made in leyland and has been placed here as a tribute to those who built them and more importantly those served in them.

I have taken a some photos of this in the past - they are in this flickr set here.

photo a day - cress mini project

A part of my 366 photo a day project I have done a mini project of some cress growing. Here is a mosaic of the shots.
You can check out all of the photos on flickr here.
One of my photo's has been used by Sony to promote a competition - link here - mine is the photo of the chess piece.

Jessops - Why?

I decided to get a new camera for my wife on tuesday to replace the 4 year old point and shoot, it's a gift and I need it for Sunday.

I found one I liked from Jessops and ordered it. Expecting delivery today I used their order tracker only to find it was on back order. Shouldn't they contact me and let me know this rather than just leave the order there for two days? I rang them to find out what was happening, first of all I was hung up/cut off before I even got a word in, another -1 for the customer service there. Second time around I was told that the camera was no longer in stock, no more will be coming in and I shouldn't have been able to order it in the first place - so not on back order, its out of stock. Did they offer an alternative? No. Order Cancelled.

Getting one from Tesco instead.

hello - welcome to my blog

hi,

My name is Gary and I have decided to keep a blog about my photography. I took up photography in October 2010 as a hobby and I've had a ball. I shoot Sony - clarify - not at Sony but with a Sony A450.

I am 10 weeks into a 366 photo a day project, so I will be keeping you up to date on that. I will also link to any cool photography things I see on the web.

hope you like my blog
